The rose symbolizes confidentiality in many cultures. The goddess Venus offered one to the god of silence, so that her love affairs would remain a secret. This is the origin of the Latin term „sub rosa“ (under the rose), which means „under secrecy, in confidence“.
The secret of this paperweight is a red rose button nestled in green leaves, achieved with a blowtorch. It reveals itself when the millefiori dome is turned, covered with a diamond cut, resembling that of a bramble forest, which guards it preciously. The rose grows at the heart of a quadrupled crystal cap, in amethyst, flannel grey, and white colors. Its texture is modelled after the interior of a flower, where all kinds of secret messages could be concealed.
